So i'm searching on e-bay and there are some nice guitars, they even have a semi-hollow, but are they known for quality? are 'new' ones cheap chinese imports?

my roommate has a striker 3000t and it plays just fine, the only thing i don't like about it is that it hums when close to the amp (which is where i pretty much have to sit)

he got it for like 45 bucks though, which i dont think anyone can really complain about

you should ask Kramer about Kramer guitars but don't expect anything but sarcasm for an answer.

The "vintage" Kramers from 82-85 are quite good. I have a "BXXXX" serial number HH model and it works great. Had to dress the frets a couple times. The Floyd Rose was a bit much so I blocked it - it still goes "down" but not "up" and it keeps it a bit more stable when I bend notes and do double stops....

The top of the line new Kramers aren't bad but they don't have a new HH model. I use the rhythm pickup a lot so I'll pass on the new ones for now....

I have an 80s Kramer and as a shred style guitar I love it. Those old ones came with original floyd rose locking trems; I believe they were the first guitars that came factory fitted with them. The neck is nice too... not wafer thin like the Ibanez Wizard necks, for example. More strat-like, but still a tad thinner than a standard strat neck and fitted with jumbo frets. I'd avoid the Korean made guitars though (lower build quality and poorer materials) and just stick to the American and Japanese models. ;)

I was once the proud owner of a Kramer KnightSwan and let me tell ya something......That guitar had a low end that made Satan screetch like a lil bitch!!!! One of my biggest "bonehead" decisions was selling it! I also owned a Striker 3000 which was probably THE worst guitar I've ever owned. With the old Kramers, the KnightSwans,Pacers, Barettas, Stagemasters, are the ones worth buying. Stay away from the Striker series, they all have cheap trems on them unless one has been modified. I found that the older Barettas are a very nice guitar. They're heavy and seem to have a lot of sustain. My buddy owns two along with a Jem and a Schon guitar. He usually ends up recording with the Kramers.

I have a "Neptune, NJ" Pacer (HSS) from the eighties and I've owned it second hand since 1987. It is my "#2" live guitar (my LP Standard is #1) and it's tuned 1/2 step down for Alice in Chains, Nirvana, etc. Dark, moody tone with a distinctive growl no matter what pickups are installed. I have changed the pickups numerous times, replaced the Floyd with a Kahler Pro, re-fretted and re-finished the neck and so on and so forth. The guitar is a road warrior with numerous cigarette burns, cymbal scars, blood stains, beer stains and so on and so on. It has been knocked to the ground by my stage frenzy on more than a dozen occassions and survived with only a broken locking nut to show for it. That being said, the days of bullet proof Kramers ended when production was moved to Korea and the MSRP average went from $1300.00 to $99.99. Oh well.....
