now what exactly would a 3000 dollar drum sound like?

coincidentally i had just been recording a bass drum with an sm57 and i like it a lot. sounds great with less impact than electronic drum sounds.

i hate high impact bass drum sounds i think its for ppls who like to pound their heads against a wall for stimulation.

:)

Well, o.k. maybe not $3000, but certainly more than $1500! I mean, the Greg Bisonette SHELL-KIT alone is around $6000 here in Europe.. that means NO HARDWARE, NO CYMBALS.
So, If you'd divide $6000 into 3 toms, a snare and a kick, I think the kick could easily cost $1500. Besides, brands like DW cost a fortune over here as well!

d112 - has just one sound and delivers it always. Hard to get any decent out of it outside of a rock context. Kinda choked high end.

e602 - low end punch quite similar to the d112, but more linear high end, doesn't sound as choked. Also a rock mic.

I very much like the RE20 in kick.
I bought a Beyer TGX-50 because I needed a kick mic, found it cheap enough, its a Beyer (always a good sign) and it said "kick mic" on it. Best impulse buy ever, doubles as a nice large dia dynamic on many things. Sounds more natural than the scooped out kick mics like the e602 and the d112... I like the e602 best of those two though, although they are both one trick ponies.
The m88 is a more common kick mic than you might believe.
