Kicker Subwoofers?

Putting this on the newbie thread so maybe I won't be laughed off here.

I know absolutely nothing about amplification systems. Having recently picked up several 10" and 15" Kicker subs, I am wondering if there is a possible way to (or a sensible reason for) attempt to use these speakers in a PA system for a band.

nope.

you probably couldnt pick a more "wrong" speaker. what is the sensitivity on those---- 88dB? better have a good power amp.

the good thing is that unlike most average "hifi" speakers, the kickers were designed to handle some abuse--- you probably wont blow them if you are sensible. but i wouldnt advise making a 3-way system with their component speakers (mid/tweet). that is, unless you want a lump of "suck" and the cost isnt a factor.

you can keepem and experiment with bass cabs maybe... dont use them for pa..

I have a 4x12 cab loaded up with car subs in my pa.. They sounded boomier in the van, but they most certainly add a lot of low end. I wired em series/parallel to 4 ohms, which gets the most out of the amp. I'm pushing em with a QSC 850 so I could probably fry em all at once if I felt like it. I have another 2x12 sub box with MTX 12's I turn on while playing my vdrums, you can feel the kick.. It works, I'm sure some subs built for the purpose would sound better, but I've always been a car audio freak, so that's what I had....

yeah, i guess i could see it for v-drums, especially for practice. however, the useful frequency response of a box like that wont be very effective for vocals (unless you are barry white).

True, which is why it never got taken to a gig. It has a separate out from the board, so that fader is just a huge bass knob, and I can turn it off completely with the mains blaring if I want. Those sonic 12's are weak in the bass department, and it fills in the low end. You do notice it a lot more when playing music vs. singing thru it.
