I'm always trying to listen to lyrics for the underlying message, I can't quite figure out what this is trying to say;

"I know how you want it child, hot quick and tight"

Pretty cool there Greg! :thumbs up:

Was the rhythm guitar and the lead guitar the same guitar?

"I know how you want it child, hot quick and tight"

So it's a song about a form fitting sweater?

Winter clothing, and it is appropriate as we are approaching December? NOW I get it. Took me awhile, sorry, I can be slow sometimes.

Loved it !!! Another that had me grinning from ear to ear :D

Thanks for the listen :)

As always: Juicy :listeningmusic:

Yes, it's about a sweater. STFU now.

Thanks for checking it out. :)

Great choice of cover man. I love this song, even though it's the only MC5 tune I know.

I know you've just done it for fun, so probably not too fussed about mix suggestions, but I thought it would be cool with a really dry vocal to make it sound even more raw. And maybe just a pronounced long reverb tail on the 'kick out the jams' line for effect.

Good fun stuff.

Thanks man. Funny you mention the vocals...I had the vocals like that at first with some distortion on them, but I didn't like it. One of the things I did on this mix that I never do on others is I sent literally everything one reverb. Having the vocals dry really stood out too much to me with everything else going to that one reverb, so I killed that idea and just sent the vocals there too.

The MC5's proteges - The Stooges - took it one step further and are one of my all-time favorite bands.

It's weird. I love both those bands but I never would have lumped em together, apart from both being from Deeetroit. The Stooges were just so dark and brooding. MC5 was like Beach Blanket Bingo compared to them.

I have mixed feelings about The Doors (pretentious guy singing over circus organ music), but for some reason I always relate them to the Stooges. How similar were the covers of Funhouse and Doors s/t? Pretty freakin similar. And both singers had that deep baritone voice, and on the same label!

Although they didn't come around til ten years later, I think the Dead Boys were really cut from that MC5 cloth. You should totally do Sonic Reducer- I bet you'd rip it up. :)

Lol. Yeah, but Wayne Kramer and Rob Tyner used to refer to The Stooges as their "younger brothers".

Ugh, I hate The Doors. I personally draw no comparisons between them and The Stooges. One was pretentious poetry set to organ music, the other was dangerous rock and roll. Lol.

Yeah I like that song. Talk about a band's one hit - Sonic Reducer is pretty much all the Dead Boys are known for.

Yeah, they just didn't have that many songs. And their second album kinda sounded like Foghat.

I did a Johnny Thunders memorial gig with Cheetah Chrome one time. He was ugly as fuck but pretty cool.

Kick-ass song. Vaguely familiar. Goes back a long time ago and the old brain cells don't hold as much water.

Impeccable performance. Extremely tight.

If I were to say anything about the mix, maybe the snare could pop some more. I think it's flattened out a bit with the final limiter. Eh, but it's really inconsequential. Maybe I just need to crank it louder and listen again. :)

Thanks chili. I agree with you about the snare, but it was actually intentional. Normally I would have my snare pop out more, but I tried in earnest for a big mostly homogenized mash of sound for this one. Just one big barrage of noise - but still with detail. I didn't want it to sound sloppy, but I also didn't want it to have as much separation as I typically go for. That's also partly why I sent literally everything to one big reverb and blended it back in a little. I never usually do that. :p
