Is there a website or anything with recordings of popular keyboards through the years? I ask because I'd really like to buy a keyboard for myself, and I'd prefer vintage rather than new. There have been SO many keyboards released over the years, and I'm normally a guitarist... so I wouldn't even know where to begin. I have no idea what any of them sound like. I've heard a couple short recordings of the Roland D-50, and I know that it was used by two of my favorite musicians (Nick Rhodes and Pete Townshend), but I'd rather not just plunk down the cash and buy it without seeing what else is out there first. I also know that the D-50 isn't the easiest keyboard on the planet to work with. Plus I don't know if it has touch sensitivity or aftertouch, in case I want to use it to trigger samples on my computer...

In other words, I'm just completely clueless about this whole keyboard thing. ;-) So where should I look for info?

Bump!

Does anyone have any ideas for this, before I try a crosspost?

Hey man I own a Kurzweil 2500x (88 keys)that has all those feutures plus the only thing it doesn't do in stock trim is play a realy good organ sound. I believe there are addons available for that but I have never pursued them. It is comepletely programmable to create just about any sound possible and anywhere you want them on the keyboard . It is however fairly complicated. The other thing it will do is record 16 tracks of manualy played bass drums etc.( the kurzweils sounds are sensational)for playback the problem is one song is about all you can get out of it.I wish I could figure out a way to get about 15 songs out of it without loading and unloading them. There would be no need for a band although I prefer to see a complete band than one person performing. Sometimes a band is just not available. Randall

I'm sure it's a great keyboard!

That really isn't the type of thing that I'm looking for, though... For more "real" sounding instruments, I'm hoping that a combination of sound modules and an Audigy with samples will do.

It's the more "classic" keyboards I'd like to learn about (I used the D-50 as an example) - the ones that actually use synthesis, rather than samples.

The Kurzweil does generate its own synth waveforms which can be combined with the samples or used own there own.And if anything sounds better I have not been exposed to it but would like to be- ten-fo-.Ranall
