keyboard controller?

im not looking for anything too special but i defintly want the keyboard.. no pads.

I was looking at all of M-audios cheap simple keyboards. I want something like that but most the reviews are bad.

What are weighted keys.

i know i have more questions but they have escaped me right now so i will post them when i remember. But in the mean time any good suggestions??

Weighted keys have a more realistic piano like feel. Keys that are not weighted have a very light feel to them. If you play piano, switching to non-weighted keys can be a tough change.

I have the m-audio Axiom 49 and it's a pretty solid unit. It's more expensive than some. I think I paid $250 for mine. It's semi-weighted and that's good enough for what I use it for. I went with the 49 because I got the pads and sliders that way and I wanted to use it for controlling sonar at times too.

To be honest though the whole latency issue of controllers bugs me. I think I will get a used sound module or something to run into my board so I can hear sound in real time while I program midi tracks.

Should have never sold my QS8+

***edit*** Oh ya, since you asked about weighted keys, make sure you get something with decent velocity sensing.

wow yeah, that one looks great, what do you use the pads for then just drums? do you hook it up midi in/out or just USB? oh and about the latency issue, do you think thats a fault with the unit its self or is it a computer/interface issue?

You can use the pads for what ever but I guess they are intended for drums.

You can use midi or usb. I've tried both. You need to buy a power adaptor to use just a midi cable.

The latency is not te fault of the unit. As far as I understand it's just the way it is with softsynths when recording them into sonar. If you go straight to the soft synth and just play the latency is very, very minor. When I run the soft synth in rewire mode to record the latency is worse.

I am not a midi guru by any means soooo...... But it's my understanding that the keybard has no fault in the matter. There are adjustements in the programs to lower the latency as well.

ohh ok i see, cool yeah i like the 49 keys too. seems like enough for me too, im also no guru for sure... more of a nooooooob. so is that what the rewire option in programs is for? to fix latency? ill have to give that a go if i have latency problems

Rewire is a way of running a softsynth (not a plugin) at the sam time as your recording software and being able to play it and access it from with in your recording software. I'd recomend you google the term and read up on it. I need to also You can look at the help site for Alberton live and see what it has to say about it. Alberton is rewire capable. That'e the program I use it on but, I only learned enough to get it up and going.

I'd do some searching on fixing latency too. There are buffers you can adjust and what not.

well i think im gonna go with this keyboard, it looks like exactly what i was looking for. Thanks again, other suggestions still open. Ill read up on the rewire
