keyboard amps

So I was wondering. Since I just got a rhodes off ebay, one that didn't come with the built in speaker, I was wondering what I should do. Should I

get one of the rhodes amps that come with some of them (how are they?)

get another keyboard amp

just runit through my pa system. (this seems like the most convinient)
 
You could run it through you're PA for sure.

Having a dedicated amp is nice too though. Moving a PA is a pain usually, especially if you're on the fly (i.e. going to your guitarists house for a quick songwriting session). The Roland KC line is really good. I personally use a pair of Peavey KB/A 300's (Since 1998), and have never had any problems. This particular model is no longer available, but the new Peavey amps sound pretty good too.

Obviously though if you want the full Rhodes experience, you'll wan't to find an original Rhodes amp, and mic that, and send it through your PA.

What you have to consider when buying an outboard amp for a keyboard really amounts to how HEAVY is the amp.

If you're young and strong, all you can get is a hernia. [I had one from lugging around my Cordovox components, including a Leslie speaker.]

I bought a Roland K-500. A nice box which I never used; it sits in my studio as sort of an "ornament." It is just too heavy to cart around and quite bulky. It comes with wheel mounts built in just to give you an idea that it is not made for toting up a flight of stairs--yes, gigs still occur in joints like that.

So, if you're going to be doing gigs, I suggest you look at smaller and lighter units that can produce the sound your ears will enjoy. Once the amp gets over 50 pounds, it really gets heavy after 2 AM and you have to pack it up and head for your crib.

Lots of good ones out there that will work and many are at a reasonable price.

That's more or less the KB/A 300's, heavy as S@*T. The newer ones are lighter though.
