Slowing becoming un-noob.
So I usually HATE the boss DS-1 and MT-2. Never enjoyed their tones at all...
That being said...
The keeley mods sound so good to me. So I'm thinkin' of selling my current fuzz and investing in a keeley mod of either the Ds-1 or MT-2.

So which one do you think? Can the MT-2 clean up enough to be a thicker overdrive type sound? (slightly heavier than AC/DC is what I'm thinkin')

I'm leanin' towards the DS-1 mod but wonderin' what you guys think.

Thanks guys,

Never been a fan of the Metal Zone at all....waaaay too brittle for me. If used properly, the DS-1 (even the non-keeley) can be pretty subtle.

I'm still diggin' my Keeley Blues Driver. But the final amount of grist in your mill is partly the amp any pedal is plugged into. If your amp is already showing 'moderate' overdrive, and you want to send it over the top for solo work, look for an old DOD Juicebox. Go to http://harryj.net/OD_Shootout2.htm and down the page is the Juicebox audio sample. It's actually pretty cool.

My amp will be on the clean setting, so no real overdrive going on.
Screw Keeley and his overpriced mods! You can easily mod a DS-1 yourself and get better results with just a few bucks worth of parts. http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issue/2008/Feb/Boss_DS_1_Mods.aspx
huh, interesting. Thanks, I'll definitely look into it.

Get the Allums mod kit for $25 bucks and do it yourself..... you would need a $10,000 dollar amp to hear the difference.....

Just got a Boss DS2 and learn to work with it. Pretty solid distortion pedal. Or if you want a thick OD, he mods TS9s to tighten up the low end.

I've been tryin' to pick up a cheap one on ebay for a while now. Still no luck, hopefully one will slip into my price range sometime soon.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Every time I've tried to achieve a mellower distortion with an MT-2 it's always come out dull. There's plenty of "spice" on the MT-2.

For the style that you're trying to achieve, you'll probably find the DS-1 more versatile.

My $0.02.
