I'm tryin to hook up my Behringer Eurorack UB1220FX mixer to the break out box of my E-MU 1820M ...the user manuals for both the E-MU & the UB1202FX are vauge (to me) about how to hook up the mixer to the breakout box....are there any books or web sites that you might know of that deals with how to hook up equipment or equipment compatibility ? thx

Ok, looks pretty simple. Use main out L to your EMU 1L and main out R to your EMU 1R.

Do you have any monitors, headphone amp? What else do you have?

I've ordered a pair of Behringer Truth B2031A studio monitors (built in power amps) that will be here on or about May 5th, & use headphones when recording ( I've just been using the mic A through the breakout box & recording one instrument at a time)

Ok, plug your monitors into ctrl room out and use the control room nob for volume.

Pity you have only 2 out of the mixer.
With 8 in on your b/out box you're underusing it. BUT if you're only doing 1 or 2 things at a time GO FOR IT.
Do any of the B/out box INs have preamps? If they do DON'T put the mixer lines into them. Keep them sep. so that you can use them without unplugging IF you want to run a mic straight in.

I'm not sure about the preamps in the back...the manual only references preamp section on the front of the b/out box...i hate the thought of underusing anything, but at this time (before i start recording multiple instruments)) im just trying to understand all the technology...this is like learning the guitar all over again...mindboggling to say the least

these links show the front & back of the b/out box along with the nomenclature from the manual

......thx again for all your help

Actually I would suggest that when you get your monitors that you Plug them into the Left and Right Outputs on the Back of the EMU unit and not into the Mixer as you will only be able to Monitor when recording But not be able to Playback what is Recorded if you connect the Monitors to the Mixer....

The EMU unit has Zero Latency Hardware Monitoring so you should monitor from the EMU not the Mixer.....

So connect the left and Right ouputs from the Mixer into the Left and Right Inputs on the Back of the EMU and Plug the Monitors into the Left and Right Ouputs from the EMU and in the Software enable recording on Channel 1 Left and Right and for Playback enable Channel 1 Out Left and Right and this way you will be able to Record through the Micer into the EMU and be able to Monitor and Playback out through the EMU into your Monitors....

Cheers

Not unless you output to the mixer. If the monitors have no volume control, then he'll be in a world of hurt. Also, outputing to the mixer also lets you use your monitors for other things besides play back from the computer. In my rack have a CD player, DVD player, etc. If I put the monitors on the breakout box, I wouldn't be able to listen to them without having the computer on.

WHEW!!...lots of great information to process...that's what happens when a musician want to learn more about recording at home...I can't tell you enough how much I truly appreciate your taking the time to help...

I don't have anything like a cd or dvd player hooked up, my idea was to be straight forward in recording instrument(s) & vocals and mixing them down via software like CuBase or Sonar (not sure on that yet)...editing in programs like Soundforge and burning in MP3 format to cd via the computer...so if I hook up my mixer to the b/out box through the main out on the mixer to 1L in & 1L out on the b/out box & put my monitors in 4L & 4R monitor outputs in the b/out box that will allow me to record one instrument (for now)at a time by plugging a mike or guitar into the mixer & recording one track at a time?

Yes!!

In your Recording software you will have to enable the Inputs and Outputs you are useing and assign what Input is recording to what Track....

You might also Try Micing your Guitar Cab and see if you Like that sound Better than Outputting from Your Guitar amp into the Mixer as both methods have there advantages....

You might also Try micing your Guitar amp with several Mics with each Mic haveing it"s own EQ and Effects ect settings and Try recording that way as you can get a Very Fat sounding guitar that way......

Cheers

One of the reasons for the mixer is because it has FX built into it also, the Patch DSP application that came with the EMU setup has it's own FX as well, not to mention the FX boxes that my Rickenbacker 360, Telecaster, Taylor 410 acoustic & Hofner bass can be plugged into,...I'm hoping that as I learn more, to be able to record my son's band as well as my own bands songs... I know I have a long way to go, learning the art of PC home recording, but for now you & those who have responded to my post have certainly pointed me in the right direction , I appreciate your help & patience more than words can express........thank you

your advice worked gr8....i've been able to rcord one instrument or vocal at a time...so where do i go next to setup the mixer to the e-mu b/out box for multiple insruments or vocals?
