Hello again. Well, I don't have any questions or answers at the moment and I'm not about to excite anybody with my gear list, but very briefly here's what I'm using just now:
PC is a Shuttle with a dual core Pentium and 1GB memory
E-MU0404 USB interface.
Mics:
Sennheiser E815S dynamic and an Audio-Technica condenser (forget which model)
Tannoy monitors
Enough peripheral stuff and redundancy to sink the Queen Mary
I record mostly acoustic guitar, vocals and bass guitar and usually drums, and might add electric guitar and/or keyboards. Mostly I do covers because I'm a crappy songwriter but I'll grind out the occasional instrumental. I live in a tenement so can't make a lot of noise, and my room is very small. Because of the PC fan noise I use
a Zoom MRS 802 for recording anything that needs a mic. If I can be bothered I'll work from another room instead (either way, it's a hassle). I'm happy enough with the interface and the mics for the time being, but aim to replace the old Audio Buddy asap. I rather stupidly bought a new guitar a couple of years ago when a preamp would have served a better purpose.
I started this recording caper in 1968 with a Marconi 4 track reel to reel and a cheap acoustic guitar, although I've learned more since going digital than in all the years before that. My Other Half is a computer tech or I might well have stuck with analogue. I do this stuff all on my own just for fun and I don't know if any of it has been worth a fart in a force nine gale, but it beats the hell out of watching tv.
Cheers for now
Jane
