info about mixing that might come in Handy

I just found this out after reading a recording book I got,
that will surely make my mixing much easier.

It said, basically, that the smallest change in volume that the human ear can hear is 1 db. One whole decibel.

no more adding .05 to my bass or removing .07 from my strings. If I want to bring anything up, it goes up by one db.

imagine how much easier mixing will be for me and you

That info is referring to a 1db change in broadband program material, and in that case it is correct. However, if you are listening to an individual instrument you can definitely hear less than 1db increments. So it is both right and wrong.

I'd rather think that the 1db is the smallest difference you can hear in total sound pressure. Single instrument or not.
But you are probably able to hear smaller changes in volume of different instruments in relation to each other, which is another thing altogether.

Although .05 dB would be pushing it!
