Well song of Xmas past, there are a number of ways to go. But, to eliminate some outboard gear and several cables, why not look at the Yamaha AG16 digital multitrack SIAB. [studio in a box]

It will give you everything to record and burn your CD. There is also a very good help site for the unit easy to find. It runs around 1k but you get the reverbs and, to an extent, EQ and dynamics.

Yorkville monitors run a bit over 200 pezzutos; however, believe it or not, the KRK ST8 passives run a few dollars less and are better. The Yorks come with a 6.5 inch woofer; the KRKs have an 8" woofer. You can, of course, spend more to get more quality; however, I think the KRKs will get you started in the right quality direction.

Go to the Mic forum and shop around for ideas. A good mic doesn't have to be an expensive mic. Add some cables and you're in the recording business.

Learning curve for the Yam AW16 isn't too tough especially with the site devoted to the unit.

The water is fine; jump and start swimming in the mellifluous effluvia of music.
