its been on my comp for a while, but i just started using it. WOW. it works great, runs so smooth. my only issue is, they past couple of days, if i leave my computer for a minute and come back, the computers restarted. anyone know the deal?

if ti helps, adobe audition 3.0 crashes when i start it up. i dont know if its a VST glitch, or what.
 
will it self restart if you try it from safe mode?
 
Funny..... when I installed Adobe Audition 3, something mysteriously KILLED my copy or reaper and I had to re-install it.

I call foul.

Different scenario than your problem though.

If your computer is re-booting by it'self.... check that it is cool enough, and that the hard-drive is not defective.

You can check your computer / cpu temperature from within the BIOS (hit delete to enter setup) or from various utilities you can download that work in Windows.

Check the hard-drive by typing chkdsk c: /f , say yes to the prompt, and then reboot. This will detect some surface errors, bad sector's etc.

how long do you actually leave it? and does the screen saver kick in during that time? also, is it a laptop with very short power options, is it on battery or ac? is it going into sleep or shutting down hdd or monitor? etc.
 
not long. ill use it fine, for an hour even, ill get up for a few minutes, i come back, boom. lol it doesnt make sense.


i gave up an AA 3.. refund, reaper is better.
 
Put your hand on the back, where the metal is.

(Where the power supply is).

See if it's hot, similar to checking if a kid has a fever, you should be able to just tell if it's too hot or not.

How old is this system?

Any chance the inside is covered in dust ? That can cause shorting and overheating for sure.
 
I agree with the above, it almost sounds like your power supply is going bad.
 
Overheating is the first thing I'd check. Computers will shut themselves off/restart if the temperature gets too high (that temperature threshold setting is in the BIOS when you first startup your computer).

Next I'd guess a bad power supply or video card. Maybe even bad RAM but I doubt it.

It could also be a software problem. If a Windows Service fails, it will restart the computer, sometimes without warning. What OS are you using?

Take a look at the Event Viewer in Windows to see what the last few errors were.

In XP:
Start -> Control Panel -> (Left-side "Switch to Classic View" if it's there) -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer

If there were any critical errors causing your computer to restart they would be listed somewhere in there.
 
its only a year and a hlaf old. amd 3500+ x2 2 gig ram




ill check the power supply, ive recorded with AA 1.5 for years, it never did it. its just with raeper.
 
it doesnt feel hot, btw.


could it be from my pod? thats set as the asio driver, and it might only do it when i turn it off, im pretty sure it does. error message comes up about the asio drivers when i turn it off.
 
it shouldn't. I have some line 6 devices here to test with. There is a buffer size issue, thats intermittent for me, but it hasn't caused a crash
 
i mean like....it needs a asio driver, and i turn off my pod...so it doesnt have anything to run on. no chance this caused a crash?
 
It shouldn't...It will usually just say something like "your line6 asio driver could not be found, would you like to see your audio preferences now?"

It's got lots and lots of diagnostics.

Most importantly, you will be able to test your ram and hard-drive.

Pop into your bios and check that temperature, as mentioned earlier.
 
This is definitely a hardware issue. If you're not keeping up your Windows virus protection, there's a good chance that has something to do with it. Make sure you're keeping on top of that, it will pile up really, really fast otherwise.
