damn great deal! $92 for a pair...
I thought a recent pawn shop deal at $180 pair was good.

yeah i wasnt even planning on getting monitors, i just settled to mix through headphones because i couldent afford nice monitors. then i saw these on ebay with 8 minutes left at like $88. i was just gawking at the screen for a minute or two then realized i had to decide pretty quickly on whether or not i wanted them! haha. i cant wait to mix on them!

Seem like pretty decent monitors, and the price was certainly right!

Might want to add on a sub someday as you might find them a little lacking in bass response.

warble-yeah i have a multimedia 2.1 set up that i might be able jerry rig the sub out of and use it alongside these. i figure it will just fill out the low end a little bit, just enough to make sure i'm not going crazy on the real low frequencys.

You will need the sub. I had these years ago and could not make a decent mix until I picked up the sub.

Also run a pink noise signal through these and use a cheap radio shack meter to make sure the crossover point is set correctly. Otherwise every mix will sound excessive in the lower midrange.

Enjoy.

the crossover point between the tweeter and woofer, or the "crossover" between the sub and the woofer? thanks for the advice though, i will do this. i also heard that it is alright to use just a regular subwoofer for this application. do you think it would be alright to do this? i've used the sub before but i'm not sure how accurate it is, or how accurate subs can be at all.

Between the sub and the woofer. If you can find the matching sub for these, it has the controls to set the crossover point.

Word. These monitors have very little low end and make mixing a pain in the ass yet still light years better than using headphones.

gotcha. thanks a lot

that's a great score. i have a pair of SP5B's and i think they're the best monitors M-Audio's ever made.

the problem, as noted here and elsewhere on this forum, is that anything below ~200Hz is just about a guessing game. That's the low end on guitars, bass guitar, kick drum, etc. you will need a sub or something else in order to work out that low end.

but i think these things really rule the midrange. great for acoustic guitar/vocals.

i've since upgraded to a pair of Event ASP8's, which are in a completely different world. i've thought about selling my SP5B's, but if they're not even fetching $100, i might just hold onto em. I feel that they're worth $150 or more.....so you got a good deal!

cheers,
wade
