without a scratch on it at the local pawn shop. Had the box and manuals and everything - looks like it never got used.

I actually went in looking for a SM7b but couldn't pass up an SM57 for $40 out the door :) - Guitar sounds great through it, was using an AKG D690

Hey, I gotta bottle of Heinz steak sauce in my fridge- can I join the club?

I don't want to burst your bubble: It is probably a fake one, made in China.

Check out the sites about fake Shure SM57's & SM58's. They look real, but sound crap.

There's a boxed SM58 in my local pawn shop now for ages. You can get them off ebay for about $30 each.

Easiest way to tell the difference is the weight, because a lot of times they do a great job in making it look real. Those knock offs aren't as heavy as a normal 57.

I already went through the checklist. It's real.

Yellow and green wires, numbered pins, weighty, sticker and registration card in box. Yadda yadda
.

They had it tagged at $79 but the guy was just like, I just got a bunch more in the back, ill let you have it for 40

He said it sounds good on guitar, so who gives a flip if it is real or fake ;)

You should go back and ask about preamps!

The bootleggers see these sites too, they make them look better and better, did you measure the impedance?

Make no mistake, friendly store owners also have to pay overheads, this deal sounds to good to be true.

I hope I'm wrong in this case.

I don't know how to test impedance but the mic sounds great and it has all the marks of being authentic. These are not friendly store owners, they own a pawn shop. Pawn shop owners are not friendly people in my experience. They prey upon the poor and desperate...

Really? Hope they know as of next month all Shure microphones will be painted red and white striped mush like a barbers pole.

That should trick all of those bootleggers!

And Shure have changed their brand name to FAKE.

That should really confuse them.

I would not worry, if it sounds good it not a fake.

That would by quite a happening color scheme :D

I will pick up some nail polish and white-out so all my mics will look new! :D

Hi,

I also have an SM57 and two AKG D690s. Don't get me wrong. I like my 57. But I use the 690s more.

Part of that may be because I also have an SM56 and a 545sd, pre 57 undidynes that I love. But I use my 690s more than them to. And don't let me get started about my D770s. They stay in my kit bag.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry
