just got the sm57

i got mine used from ebay and i have some questions. why does the "head" of this microphone-the end you sing into-turns. i can turn it all the way, and there is nothing catching it. what is the purpose of that? also, between the head and the body of the microphone there is a gap and in this gap is a screen that goes around, mine seems to have a "rip" in the screen or some sort of a very small opening to where u can see the metal. is this normal?

Normal. You'd have to ask the engineers about some of it...

The "rip" is an access to remove the screen. Don't.

yep....I have 3 I bought new from MF a few months ago,and all 3 are just as you describe.(haven't paid that much attention to them till now ).

I always thought that was funny, and so does everyone else who picks mine up. I sort of like it for some reason lol. I always mess with it heh.

How many times can you turn yours without it pulling apart?

I didn't even know it could come off. I turned it a few times every once in a while when I pick it up, but it has never moved.
