Good start - it's a versatile mic for live and pretty good for recording if you watch the proximity effect. I like em....

Yea its a good start for me but the goal is to get a good condenser mic. Dey be bustin heads for em doe
 
The 58 is a grand little mic and I like recording via it. Bear in mind however, that having 2 or 3 different mics is good for developing your ear and therefore deciding which mike to use when.
 
What is some good condenser mics for a singer doe...
 
I just wrote what I thought was an eloquent response to your question. Obviously I am not as savvy as I thought as it was lost with one keystroke. Anyway, the only way to find a mic that works for a particular singer/instrument, is to try one. There is no 'perfect mic for everything'. A 58 might work for voice 'A' and be the worst choice ever for v 'B'. That being said, there are many cheap mics available. Keep in mind tho, there is a reason pro recordings are not made with crappy, budget priced gear. A 58 may be the mic used, but it was probably routed through a $2000+ preamp and recorded in a well treated room with a highly experienced engineer who knows through experience which combination to try first. There are no easy answers. Just opinions. Mine are probably silly. LOL!
 
58s are tough as nails. They tend to be heavy mid-range punchy in my opinion, and if you sing in lower registers, don't get *right* up on it. It is solid, and does sound good though. Hard to go wrong with one. You also won't kill it if you aren't gentle with it. I smushed two grilles on mine before I sold it like a fool.

Hey, if thousands of kiddies with nothing more than a computer, and the on-board sound card and "microphone" that came with said computer can call themselves a "pro-doo-sah," you can certainly call that a studio! :D

Oh, and by the way, I am STILL looking for that grey guitar I talked about. I'll be famous one day, I swear it!
