Just getting started FL Studio 6

So one day i'm walking through a flea market and I see this guy who sells computer software, I look at his disks and he has Fruity Loops. I remember that i read that 9th Wonder uses FL (on hiphopgame.com) so I had to get it.
I got home , installed it, and have no idea what i'm doing.
how does this stuff work?
do i need equipment like Midis & 808s or whatever?
How much does it cost? It probably costs alot!

Can anyone tell me what i need and what i need to know.

I'm not an expert at all, I only used fruity loops for a very short time (like an hour) but as far as i could tell it is a midid sequencer. meaning you program melodies/rhythms etc that it plays through virtual (midi) instruments. you shouldn't NEED any other equipment to start making loops, should just be able to program loops into the sequencer....i suck at explaining, but if you start experimenting i think you should be able to get it to make noise. as i recall you have to create virtual drum machines/synths and then tell them what to play....

You can use it to program drum beats and MIDI things. I've used it to make some drum beats for some projects
