just for fun..... "Interstate Sun"

Well done! Organ could be a shade louder. You did the solo justice.
They should have used your bass line. I think you did it better than the original.
Guitars are on the money. Again, great solos. Could use some feedback, though.
Great job!

Killer man. Is the rhythm guitar only on the left?

Awesome leads. Nice vocal, too. That's you, right?

hey johnny! thanks man.....
yes, the mix is very similar to the original.
on the original, guitar was hard panned left, with some verb to the right, and the keys were just the opposite.

yes, i'm singing the lead vocals, backups....
playing the bass guitar part...
and all the guitars.

'xenophile' played all the keys, in real time..
and programmed the drum parts.

yea, i think you're right about the organ,
i think if i decided to remix it NOT like the album,
that'd be the first thing i'd change,
and bring the drums up a bit.

i only had a single stereo drum file to work with,
so i just eq'd it and brought it up in the mix.....

thanks for listening!

you know,
i could almost play it from memory from my youth,
but i had to learn the bass part and the vocal parts from scratch

it's weird how you can listen to something for years,
and know every note in your head,
but have zero muscle memory to play or sing any of it

No rock scream at the beginning? C'mon man! :D

Haha sounds good. This is probably a better quality recording than the original. I always thought some of those old deep purple albums sounded terrible - lo fi in a bad way - even though I liked the music.

There is a weird hiccup in the timing on the first da da da da dada da daaaaaaa thing where the drums and its and bass are syncopated. - A little over half way through the song.

The guitar solos are nicely done. Well played. There are a few places where there is pic noise between notes. If you wanted to get super anal you could probably scrub a few of those.

yep.

LOL

i tried man, i really did..
sounded like a wounded animal.

but hey, i knocked the rest of it out the park,
so i'm ok with it!!

;)

when i started this collab,
i think someone else was going to sing it, and backed out..

the original bass part was a midi part, but i decided to scrub that, and play it for real.

i had never learned that part, or the singing, so i had some homework to do.....

but it was a really fun project.

there are no 'glitches' on the final mix,
so it's probably that crappy soundcloud thing happening...
or, just the ezdrummer track the keyboard player tediously mapped out,
those parts are not 'perfect' on the hardest parts to try to cover somebody like ian paice!

I remember you posting this before, yet under the song's actual name. Why the name change??

Oh, btw, I thought you did a good job then AND now.

:)

i like the name change!!
you don't like it?
i hardly ever do covers, i imagine there are a lot of knee-jerk reactions to straight up covers,
i was hoping someone else who had not heard it before, might get a chance.

:eatpopcorn:

:D

then, now, it's all good.

glad you dig it!
that's all that matters.

i'll tell xenophile he did a good job too..
