Hey. I've been reading these forums for about two years on and off. I don't think that I've ever posted here though. I've recently gotten interested in analog recording. I was at a swap meet earlier today and purchased a Teac a-6010 with tons of tape.

I think it's only a single track though I'm not really sure because I was reading a post on here that said it was a four-track. Though I can't figure out how it could possible be a 4-track. It can hold 1/4" tape and picks up sound nicely. I was wondering if anybody knows anything about these because I've been doing research all day. Is it only a single track or am I missing something big? I realize I can hook a mixer up to it and record a larger number of tracks at the same time but they won't be individual tracks anymore; just one on the tape if it's a single track. If it is a four-track, is there anyway that I can learn to utilize the other three tracks? Any information would be helpful for learning everything about the machine. Thanks for the help!

This is the other thread that talked about it:

4 track stereo

It should be a 4 track stereo machine. So tracks 1 and 3 record left and right then you flip the tape over and record left and right on tracks 4 and 2.

1 side A left ---------->
2 side B right <----------
3 side A right ---------->
4 side B left <----------

If that makes any sense.

You should see a pair of stereo (L-R) in and out jacks on the back. This is a pretty old deck.

Thanks for the help. I literally just figured out how to get the left and right tracks working but I would never of figured out to flip it to get the other two. I appreciate the quick response. This forum and the people here are awesome. Thanks! :D

Sorry for the double post, but I've got a new question.

Is it possible to internally bounce a track without buying a mixer and how? If not, what mixers would you guys recommend buying? I'm definitely going to do my research before I buy one, but I would love to see what everybody else has to say since I'm new to this whole thing. Thanks.

only 2 tracks.....

.... So you can bounce one track to another (not much use). To do useful bouncing you would need to reduce the number of tracks (2,3,4 to 1) so you would need some way of mixing them. Shout answer, No.
