journey's end - my new ballad

The song is great, vocals are really top notch, perfect for the tune. I didn't get much bang from the kick drum on my system, can hear it good, but just no punch. The guitar solo was a little back in the mix at points, possibly eq it forward a bit. The sound was impressive and these are just minor nits that I may be alone in hearing. Still a fantastic song that I enjoyed a lot.

Hey joeym - really nice tone to this. I thought the solo could come up - you know, similar to the level on the vocals - but then I'm a guitar player ;). It a hot solo too :D. On headphones the mix sounds great. When you get into the chorus it just kicks butt vocally - love it..! What kind of mics and processors are you using - if you don't mind sharing? Great stuff! :D:):D:)

Yeah, the solo could be a bit louder, I'll have to fix it.
I record the voices with a Studio Projects B1 and put a very slight chorus on them. I also use the MAGIX plugins, am-phibia, a tube simulator with some nice presets and am-track, a tape simulating compressor. Reverb is Variverb and delay is the one in the DAW. The backing vocals are 2 different harmonies with 2 voices on each side for each harmony and mixed down to 1 stereo track.

oh yeah...and the harmonies are panned 50 and 70 respectively on each side to fill the spectrum up a bit.
 
Yeah, it's a bit thin, but I think all of that was addressed. I am posting just to tell you that I wish I had your voice...

This sounds great Joe! I think the electric guitars are a bit "sizzly" which contributes to their thin sound. (This is a big challenge of mine, so I might be overly sensitive to it). I agree on the kick--I want to "feel" it more. :D

Great playing, singing and writing! I gotta ask: is the subject matter just an exploration of that Journey's End--or has someone in your life recently reached it? You handled the topic very well!
 
Great vocals. Nice tune overall.

I think the mix has a tinny sound overall. Maybe kick the bass freq.'s up a bit? Dare I suggest trying the dreaded smiley EQ?

I'm working on another mix right now, cos it's true what you say about the guitars and the kick, it could be better there...
and with the subject you've kind of nailed it....my father passed away last December and this is the second song that he's inspired me to write. I wrote the lyrics together with a friend who who spent a week in a famous harbour town in north Germany and he sat there one evening watching the ships sailing in. Life is a kind of journey and I guess it just seemed to fit. Thanx for asking, I think musicians understand each other better....:)

very good song, i thing the vox really make it, the drums seem to sit wierd with me, not just the sound but leading into the chorous it just sounds off
