Man, another nice job. This sounds really good also. You kept it just dry enough, to emulate the original. Very cool also.

Yo baby,...

yo baby, yo baby, yo!!
..........;)

Dry is as dry as can be! It's pretty much au' natural, with whatever ambience there is coming from a combination of the mic, the source, the positioning, the room acoustics and my fine-tuned adjustments of the mixer channels level, Gain & EQ. ;)

No FX, man,... c'mon!! ;)

Thanx!!!

I used about 12"-16" mic distance on the "mellow" vocal parts,...

and about 3'-4' mic distance on the "rant" vocals.;) The mic was on moderately high gain.

Thatz just what I sound like, & no FX on that track. ;)

Thanx again!

Cool!

I can't remember anything technical about the mic setup on the drum track, other than it was all SM57's. I can't remember how many or specifically how they were placed! (Although I know for sure there were at least 2 mics, w/one being on the kick!) My drum mic'ing has evolved over time from 1-to-4 mics, inclusive, and it's bound to change again!

Thank you for listening! Come again!................;)

Man you have a ton of cool songs on your site ! Listened to the GOD song. Nicely done - sounds like I'm sitting right in front of the stage in a small pub enjoying this. You captured a real "live" feel. Like the drum stick click after the song - sounds just like one of those Beatles things you read about LOL.
Well played too - cool!

Great job...To sing it that dry and still pull it off is awesome. You have that perfect rasp in your voice, too. The rythm is a little loose at times, timing-wise, but I'm nit picking. Great voice.

I don't want to be the only one who's posting constructive criticism, but, I assume you'd rather have that than someone blowing smoke up your ass.

I liked the overall sound of the recording. The dry tone was nice.

And I liked the tone of your voice most of the time.

Here are some things I noticed though:

There were quite a few loose spots rhythmically. This was noticeable especially in the triplet snare fills during the repetitive section. They were rushed a bit almost every time.

There were some dropped beats! I counted two at least, towards the end. It was odd.

The vocal at the end was pretty rough, pitchwise. I know it's hard to emulate that part, because it's one of the most sublime vocals in rock (IMO), but you weren't really getting the melody on the "now" bits. You may need to really slow it down to make sure you're getting each note (E-D-B-A-G). It's not easy to pull off as smoothly as John did, that's for sure, but it's something to strive for.

Anyway, I think it was a good effort, and I liked the vibe overall.

I could have sworn I mentioned the same thing about the rythm...

Sounds good Dave!

I dont think I have ever heard this song before  I am a huge Beatles/MacCartney fan, but I dont know that much Lennon other than the hits. As always you capture the spirit of the music.

Oh yeah, my recordings have flaws. All of those and more!

I was already aware of all those flaws you mentioned.

It's not hard to hear these little gaffs in there, and it wasn't a secret, or something I didn't know existed, as if I was in denial or something. And yet, as flawed as my stuff is, I post it anyway, so go figure.

Production is more of a snap for me than perfoming in front of the mics, and I know my chops need a lot of work. That has a lot to do with why I record as simple of a song as possible, in general, and I'm not beyond simplifying some parts even more to suit my own level of musicianship. (Sometimes not enough! ;) )

Pratcicing and honing my chops is a great challenge to me, as well as production in general, and reworking a bunch of tracks is always on my things-to-do list. That's all TBA/TBD.

In a nutshell, I labor over drums and vocals the most. I knew those issues existed in the tracks, but thanx for taking time to point those details out to me! ;)

The song "God" was lifted from the first Lennon solo album, "Plastic Ono Band". It is a stripped, somber album that's also known as the "Primal Scream" album.

Thanx for listening so carefully & your critiques!
;)

PS: I don't think I'd enjoy getting smoke blown up my ass. I prefer to smoke the old fashioned way! ;)
