Have you seen these things before?

I want to use them on the ceiling of my garage. They will be attached to strips of metal (resilliant channel??) every 1200mm which are horizontal to the ceiling joists. Then the plasterboard will attached to the strips of metal thus no being attached to the ceiling. Also there will be insulatoin in tne gaps.
Will this work? Will it be able to isolate enough noise of a band playing so it's not annoying for the rest of the house?
Could this method be used on the walls in conjunction with the staggered stud system as well?
One last thing, what type of insulation do you recommend for walls and ceilings?
