If the DMP3 is a worthwhile improvement over the preamps in his mixing board, I will eat your socks.

Cheap answer: no.
Expensive answer: yes.

If you are needing a preamp that can compress on the way into your recorder, the JoeMeek should be fine.

BTW, I have the DMP3 and the SP VTB1. But that's just because I need a few extra mic inputs and I don't have a mixing board.

Hope I got this to you before lunch 'cause you have some socks to eat.

Yes, the DMP3 is miles ahead of a Behringer mixer pre-amp in any and every conceivable way. Yes I have a DMP3 and yes I have put it up against a "high-end" Behringer mixing console pre-amp. The DMP3 ia a great pre-amp in budgetland and the only one worth metioning in it's price class.

Next step up would be the RNP by FMR.

Well, I just ate; but by the time the socks arrive I will be hungry again.
I never knew there was such a deep love here for the little turd. I use the DMP3 for toms and the poor little guy has some headroom troubles. I'm afraid my slightly modded Presonus MP20 slaughters it, perhaps similarly to how the DMP3 supposedly slaughters the Behri. The GT Brick slaughters all of my budget preamps.
So let's end this bickering since the authority has spoken. Ship your BBQ socks to 1510 W. Whiteside, Springfield MO 65807.

Nick: Buy whichever friggin preamp you want. What have you got to lose?

Springfield, huh? That's BEAUTIFUL country for those who haven't been... Ever been to Branson? I dated a girl from there (actually Ozark, MO) in college. A beautiful place for sure.

I am deciding from among the Brick, the Safe Sound and the new Joemeek 6Q for my "gold channel" pre.... it sounds like I can't really make a bad decision, though the best bet would be to buy them all!

Yeah, Springfield's alright. Ozark hills and all. I try to stay away from Branson unless I am going to Tablerock Lake or something.

But yes, you should buy all 3 of those preamps! I wanted to get the SixQ back when I was shopping, but I don't think it is available even yet. They've been holding out the carrot on that one for a while. I think the Brick sounds a little better than the P1, but the P1 has a lot of very useful features. I actually chain them together for a lot of overdubs to get the best of both worlds. My advice: P1 first.
