I just was watching this video of Joe Bonamasa and was wondering what this effect he was using is called. It is on a stand with a curved bar on one side (some type of magnet?). Anyways sounds like a whammy pedal. Check it out at http://www.licklibrary.com/videos/joe-bonamassa/916/music-live-2008-joe-bonamassa#Top

Oops! Forgot to say it's on the Ballad for John Henry video at the 3:40 mark. When I clicked on the URL it took a minute or so for the Joe Bonamassa vids to come up. For some reason other vids came up first.

It's so quiet in here.....

Has anyone watched the video? I'm surprised I haven't heard anything from anyone here.

No idea what it is. But it sure sounds sweet.
I like Joe Bonamassa though. Very cool.

It looks and sounds like a Theremin. I'm pretty sure it is, but i didn't know you could pilot one with a guitar. maybe it's some kind of mod on his guitar.

:confused:maybe somebody else could shed some light on this question...

I saw Joe Bonamassa here in town in October (as opening act for Mr. B. B. King:D:D:D) and it definitely had the sound of a theremin. He played Gold top Pauls all through the show-I had seating about 50 feet from stage-I would say it was a theremin for sure.

yeah, i'm almost sure too:). but what i'm not sure about is how he pilots it with his guitar

i guess the theremin just senses how close the user is.

yeah, that's a theremin, I recorded a band a couple of months ago that used one that looked exactly like that. A theremin is controlled by the user's proximity. It's not controlling his guitar, he's just using his body to make sounds come out, and it's blending with his sound...might be routed through the same amp.

That's so cool! Bonamassa rocks - thanks for the link!
