Ok, I need to know in the 500-600$ range, what monitors should I pick?

I am 90% sure I will get the JBL's but that's just from word of mouth (on these boards).

What do ya think I should look into?

I am looking for only Active monitors...

Thanks!

Don't go just by word of mouth, make sure to try them out. You can probably find the jbls in most stores, so take a cd of your own stuff and some other cds you know really well and see what helps you the most...

Yeah, definitely check out whatever you're comparing in person with some familiar cds.

That being said, i was looking at the JBLs next to the Event PS6s. I picked the 25s because the PS6s seemed to have a more hyped and tinny hi end. I've never fatigued listening the JBLs. The sound is crisp without getting abraisive, and they're nice and punchy. The bass is pretty crummy on them (roloff is at 80hz), but I'd rather hear what's there accurately than hear more but inaccurately with a boosted bottom end. They're loud too, which is a plus. If you go with the JBLs, consider their sub too.

oh yeah, and they weigh a ton, which is reassuring.

Just my two cents. Good luck choosing.

I'll also tell you it's best to hear for yourself before buying, so definitely check out all you can.

I have a pair of LSR 25's that I really like. I compared them to the Yamaha MSP5's and Roland DS-50's (I think that's the model number of the Roland, I'm going from memory). To me the Rolands didn't sound very clear. The Yamaha's seemed to be especially sensitive because they were noticeably louder at a given volume level, but I thought the mids and highs were harsh. Of those three I liked the JBL's.

I wanted to look around some more, but I was at a local Mars store that was being closed and given the clearance prices these were the only three models they had left. The JBL's were only $350 for the pair so I had to buy them for that price.

A lot of people also seem to like the new Yorkville powered monitors (YSM1p or something like that, a quick search here should get you the model number). The only problem I found with them is that they were tough to find, so I would have had to buy them without hearing them first.
