Japanese Strat question

I've been searching around looking up serial numbers and such for the origin of a 1996 Fender Strat made in Japan. The serial number is U + 6 digits. Even though it says made in Japan, I've heard that it could also have been made in Korea/Phillipines or some place other than Japan. I've checked out a Gary's Guitars, Mr. Gearhead, Ed Roman Guitars and a couple of others.

I'm just looking to replace a Strat that was stolen about ten years back, but am in no rush. Any help would be great.

I'm just looking right now. Still searching for that replacement Vintage burst Standard. Thanks for the offer though. Besides, the shipping would probably cost as much as the guitar. :D
