There's still a good separation on the guitars allowing them to be clearly heard. They seem lined up a little closer - like a good stage set up. Remix sounds good....

hey,

Aliasing: This is what happens when you try to record any frequency that is over half the sampling rate. It sounds like very robotic distortion, if that makes sense.

Anyways, I think the most common sources of aliasing are:

1) Cheap sound card with no anti-aliasing filter. I'm not sure this even exists, but it's a possibility.

2) You tried downsampling your audio using a bad algorithm that didn't have an anti-aliasing filter. This is possible, but again, I'm not sure anyone who is going to write a downsampler is going to forget the anti-aliasing filter.

3) You added distortion (an exciter or tube emulation, or even clipping) and the harmonics that are above half the sample rate are now aliasing noise. This is a common problem, and is fixed by either not using that distortion, or only using it if you have a relatively high sampling rate. Combine this with a high shelf eq, and you can have some pretty heavy aliasing happening.

Not sure if this helped much, sorry.

It was recorded at 24 using an INCA 8/8 which, whilst no means flash, isn't too shabby (I hope).
Much of the tracking was done through a Presonus Blue Tube (the older one) with a bit of tube dirt dialed in.
ALL of the tracking is fairly low vol & the mix doesn't even approach orange let alone the red.
I did mix at 41000 & 24 and had to use R8brain to bring it to CD style of 48000 & 16 at running at very high quality level. Would that be it?
OR could it be the soundclick streamer reduction?
I'll post a higher quality MP3 (320) later today.

CD is 44.1 16. I don't see that being the problem, but it might have caused something.

And no, it's not from a cruddy sound card.

i don't hear the alleged aliasing.

ray this sounds very good, again a different sound from you and still 100% pygmy beat.

this would sound even greater with a mouth harp. (is that how it's called? i mean this :

Hey Ray...I like the guitar mix on this..nice and wide...seems like there is a little hissing on the overall sound I don't usually hear in your recordings...could be the mp3 compression thing..very cool progression and pleasant sounding tune nicly played ...enjoyed it while reading the Sunday paper :D!

faderbug,
a Jew's Harp I thin. I have one somewhere - I'll dig it out - Difficult little hing if I recall. Thanks mate. The PB sound system? Terry keeps pulling towards the folkier end of things so the slight tension within the loose system keeps bringing up different ideas. I think it's the pull of different ideas and directions that has kept us writing together since 1984.
Queepy,
The hiss would be from the use of the presonus bluetube pre. I dialled in some "tube/drive" with the gain to "warm" things up - I think it really adds some noise from the on board loop circuited valve & not much else. I used it on a few tracks so it'll have stacked up. I'll hit it with some NR before posting again. Thanks for the kind words.
"Read all about it in the Sunday papers" Joe Jackson - Look Sharp 1978?

I don't mind the tone from the pre - it's just coloring as designed as far as I can see... You can try an NR but I'd just keep it as is :)

Hey ray,

I can listen to this over and over just the way it is. It's a beautiful instrumental on it's own. I'm really digging it.

I like this a lot!!

The tambourine has a few hits that need to be straightened out.

I think the drums might even be superfluous, especially if you aim to mix them in that quiet. The different rhythm instruments really hold my attention.

Please tell me you're going to give this one the full vocal treatment.......

Ido,
I'll do a patch test with the NR but if it's too destructive I'll leave it be Ta.
RAMI,
Thanks mate, that's very kind of you. Your new room sounds pretty well sorted - well done!
Supercreep,
Yeah, I know about the tambourine - Tim, I mean XLR, said back beat but I was unsure if I was on the on or the off so fumbled often. I'll redo the fluffs. Terry has yet to get to this one, he's just done a 1st take on a JFK song. I've posted proposed lyrics for this so I'm hoping he'll get to it before he becomes a grandad (in the next fortnight).
Thanks for your kind words.
It's VERY encouraging to read such positive stuff from so many talented people.
I've mamanged to resist using the banjo, cello, violin, 12 string etc so far. With the comments thus far I'm going to tidy up rather than pad out.
