Glyn Johns mic config on my latest drum track & man it's good, in fact unbelievable

I mic'd the rest of my kit as normal (for me) & changed my overheads from XY to the GJ & man what a difference

it's 2xSE2200a's along with an AKG tube about 1/2 a foot in front of the kick & it sounded well good

I'm still messing & having fun

but omigod I recommend the GJ config to anyone that's not yet tried it

BTW ermghoti THANKS for being the 1st person I heard talking about it & hence sparked my interest

Isn't it sweet to hear the results for the first time? :D

Granted, I'm still a relative noob when it comes to micing on my own, and I've always close mic'd in a "home recording" situation, but using the GJ method is getting to be second nature for me now. I LOVE it.

Naw, I know that technique works. I may try it sometime. I prefer full micing of my kit, so I'm spoiled. It would be interesting to compare.

Maybe I'll post a clip or two.

I also mic'd my full kit (12 tracks all tolled) but used the GJ config instead of my usual XY for overheads
