I've fallen in love...with a DXi called Kontakt!

Yeah, right... MIDI Credit Card... :D what's your number ? :D

And don't forget Virtual Sampler 3 :D it also supports disk-streaming.

VS3 will import SFs WAVs AND GigaSamples. I know this to be true, for I have done it. :)

I will attempt a tutorial for using VS3 & GigaSamples, but that may not happen for a week or two.

It took me long enough to write the VS3 & SF2s tutorial...

Now I've posted it, my hands are shaking, I think I need a cup of tea and a slice of toast. ;)

And this is post number 250 for me :D

07 = volume

10 = pan

i'm a big fan of 11 (expression) and 5 (portamento). nothing like a synth gliss.

Congratulations..and what a pleasure it is to have you on board with us. Just don't mention the cricket.:eek: :D

I'm afraid my CC is going to take a posting this week as I buy Kontakt. A guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do:rolleyes: (hope my Finance Director doesn't read my posts here. She won't be too impressed.)

Now go get an avatar so we can recognize you... ;)

(And congratulations by the way.... :D)

Check the VS3 & SondFonts thread. I posted a photograph of myself there.

Would YOU argue with that man???

I certainly wouldn't... :D

Nou, I wouldn't!

Personally I'm glad you're at the other end of the world. On the other hand, you're a fellow HS2002 user: so you must be my friend...

Man, put that picture of Bluesmeister next to Pedullist and I'd swear I was looking at a police lineup. :D

BTW, I downloaded and installed the demo version of Kontakt. After 15 minutes of it just sitting there looking at me, I gave up. One would think there might be a help file with this thing.

Maybe I'll go back to their web site and see if there is a pdf manual or something. I couldn't get it to do a thing. I used it as a DXi on a midi track I had in Sonar, and the only sound I got was something similar to running a stiff brush over a microphone. :(

And living in New Jersey, you'd know all about that kind of stuff;)

LOL. :)

BTW, I made some progress with Kontakt after having viewed some brief tutorials on the NI web site. I was able to load a sound font into it and got it to play back an existing midi track.

Of course, since I already have Live Synth Pro to play sound fonts, this is very little progress indeed. I'm still trying to figure out what else I can do with Kontakt. :confused:

Trust me, the police take one look at me and run away :D

Dachay, its the richness of the samples that make the difference, plus the envelope editing functions and the fact that it streams from your HD, the CPU overhead compared to something like Gigastudio is much less. For most people, who just want simple instruments, soundfonts are all you need. But if you want deep rich pads to set ambient moods, and to be able to open it from within Sonar as a Dxi, along with s/fonts and other formats, then Kontakt is the way to go.

Yer pays yer money and takes yer pick:)

So using it to play Sound Fonts won't gain anything then. I'll play around with it some more, and try and use the samples that came with the demo.

I'm still not sure I'm using this correctly though. I set it up just as you would VSC or Live Synth Pro - i.e., a MIDI track with the parts, and an audio track with Kontakt patched into it. Somehow I get the feeling that you're supposed to do the MIDI parts directly from within Kontakt.

:rolleyes:

Really? Is it some kind of Cyclone-thing?

I've never understood the Cyclone. What's the point with it? "Play Loops"?

Paul, I scanned that review, but not having much of a background in samplers alot of it was over my head.

I did use it as a DXi, and it worked fine. However, it also can be run standalone - which is what makes me think you can create the midi directly from inside Kontakt. (Or I could be dreaming. :) )

As mentioned, I used a Sound Font for my samples. Tonight maybe I'll try using some of the native samples that were supplied with with the demo.

Problem was the track I was working on was of horns, and Kontakt didn't give me horn samples with the demo. However, it shouldn't matter much just to check it out.

I did notice, however, that the Sound Fonts seemed to sound different when played back through Kontakt versus Live Synth Pro. Not sure what that's about. Seems to me the "sound" should come from the font, not the playback DXi (unless you are using it to alter the sound).
