hey guys, wanna get new crashes for my kit.. cause as you've probably seen, mine are beyond screwed up.

im thinkin of lookin into istanbul cymbals as they more affordable than zildjian or paiste and just wanted to know what you guys think of them? any one ever try them out? are they durable? i know i need to work on my cymbal technique but still want quality cymbals never the less!

i like powerful crashes with medium kinda decay, so they dont disappear immediately but dont ring on forever either.

prob want to look into 17" and 18" medium crashes or something, but what do you guys think of istanbul for this?

I've heard some great Instanbul cymbals, and they match up fine to my Zildjians in a set.
Bosphorus can be good as well, just try before you buy as always!

Istanbul are amazing cymbals! If you have them available to you, get some! Totally worth it. That and many of the other Turkish cymbals. I have an Amedia crash on my set, beautiful!

My favorite Istanbuls are the 8-12" splashes. They are like little crash cymbals - very dry and very musical. Get one or two if you have the chance. You won't regret it.

amedia? what series is that? was just checkin out their website n cant find any amedia.

any one know anythin bout the traditional cymbal line? was thinkin bout a medium crash like this :

The istanbuls I have are hammered, not lathed.

I'd try to hit one before you buy it.

I played Istanbul and Bosphorus cymbals at the NAMM show a few years ago.

They are dry, dry, dry, dry, dry!

I mean old school jazz dry! They flex alot after being struck. Very papery. I would not consider them for a rock style of playing.

Amedia is their own company. There's tons of cymbal makers out of Turkey that make cymbals, its just Istanbul AGOP (as opposed to Mehmet) is the most popular in the states.
