A couple of members ask me for sketch of the Iso box I built for my computer, which is pictured in my thread of studio pic's.

Please excuse how rough the drawings are,(I was in a hurry) and if you have questions, let me know.

Larry - That looks great. Thanks! A couple of questions though:

What speed (CPU) are you running? (It's a PC right?)

What is the purpose of the sill sealer between the sheetrock and top of the box?

Do you mind if I add the sketches to the HomeMade Gear site?

Thanks
Kevin.

longsoughtfor,

P-III 733 mHz.

I used the sheetrock on top and sides of the box, I wanted to prevent the vibrations of the sheetrock being transfered to the box. I used strips of the sill sealer just like you would use resilient channel. It is a foam like plastic that should absorb the vibrations and space the sheetrock 1/4" away from the iso box wall.

Everything needed to build is in stock at home depot.

If you think these sketches will help someone you can post them anywhere!

Keep trackin,
Larry

another design

The inner parts, isolation, etc... will be on the same principles that Larrye applied. I attached wheels and a cable duct in the fron and in the back with the felt labyrinth idea.

excel file of the design

check this file out. See if it seems ok to you, it should work with any dimensions you put in.

Do you think the ventilation idea is fine? John?

where to put the air exit?

I was thinking on putting iton the front, in the top. This is for two reasons:
1) Hot air goes up
2) The computer fan (main noise source) is on the back

I was planning to put a tube on the fan output so it directs the air up and away from the computer fan and air intake. This way it will "buffer" the hot air on the upper part of the box and it will release it with time.

Any suggestions?

Cheers, Andrés
