I notice many threads seem to imply this I am not a professional singer nor musician in any capacity just an average joe who struggles majorly when they sing yet used to be able to sing effortlessly.

Im 31 now yet when I was young my voice was far more capable then it is now and to this day I have no idea why i suddenly lost that ability now when I try to hit high notes I screech struggle strain crack horribly sound like nails on a chalkboard. Not sure if its possible to get my old voice back but I am hoping I can one day hopefully before I die.

Hi - absolutely not for professionals only. I would say the majorioty here are not, although there are definitely some sprinkled in from various fields.

If you don't find what you're looking for here, there is a Singing/Vocals forum just a little bit down the page on the main menu of forum listings.

Welcome!

I would talk a doctor if I were you. I have a friend who complained of similar symptoms and had a frozen vocal cord. I also had another friend who exhibited similar symptoms and had thyroid cancer. Might be worth checking out

No, really it is for people interested in recording, sound engineering, producing. Due to it being a Home Recording site by default most on here are Musicians as well.

Regarding you vocals, it could be that you are just out of condition vocal wise. I was in a band for many years where I used to sing in very soft registers (easy keys) as the music called for that type of vocal sound. I later joined a Blues band (back to where I started when younger) with a lot more forceful vocal in high cranking keys. It took me about 6 months to get back to where I was before singing in the easier keys. Another approach is that often as you age your natural key moves down a little, why not try singing in lower keys with a new approach, maybe a few singing lessons would help to fine tune technique.

Alan.
