Hey guys, I use Cool edit 2.1 for all my editing. I was wondering if it's possible with this program or any program to remove vocals from a beat. And still keep the beat there with no vocals. Thanks

Remove vocals from a beat? Eh? How would a drum beat come to have vocals in it in the first place? Confused...

"Yo - you're groovn on a slck beat from your boy antichef.... this is a chef beat...." -- think I should go into the business? :D

No.

But.
Assuming the 'beat' is in stereo then if the vocals that you want to get rid of happen to be panned dead centre and the so-called 'beat' is panned wide, you can crudely remove the stuff that's identical in both channels (i.e panned centre) by inverting one of the stereo channels then summing to mono. You'll sacrifice all the stereo image and the results will sound absolutely pants, but its pretty much the most you can do.

Or, you could do the totally unthinkable and actually make your own 'beat' (rather than stealing other peoples') :)

I suspect the new Melodyne with Direct Note Access could be used for that.

Well, if you wanted to extract the Vocals to use in a remix, etc... there IS a way to do it.

BUT, you need the instrumental file, and it NEEDS to be exactly the same. There is a video on youtube that shows you how to do it.
