Is This My Next Purchase???

I've always thought that thing looked pretty cool. Lots of drivers, lots of options. But no experience with it firsthand.

I'd prefer the Delta 1010 as well!

I think it's better to choose your own preamps (outboard mixer or voice-channels) than to have to pay for integrated preamps that you'll probably just bypass after you get more gear.

Hey Ola:

Yeah, it looks like it's about as packed as can be for the price.
And what draws me to it is the reviews.
One guy said the company is obsessed with quiet, and that they sheilded the piss outta this unit.

I hear you guys about the Delta 1010.
It's a good unit from all accounts.

But I think I like the 8 individual pre-amps, 4 of them being Phantom-Powered makes it ideal for miking my drums, no?
Is the Delta 1010 as good, spec-wise? I don't know.

Any other suggestions? I will look into those units.
So I am prepared to spend up to 800.00 US.

Thanks for all input here.

Save yourself a few hundred dollars and go with the 1010...take the money you save and put it towards a good mic pre.

i think the only drawback is that its limited to 48khz recording....to me that isnt a biggie...my card is capable of 96 and i still record at 44.1.....

would you consider the 1010lt?...$379 but the inputs are on unbalanced RCA's....but it does include 2 preamps...this would give you more flexability to get different sounding preamps.....

The downside I see to the Aark is their driver support.

They currently only have Beta support for XP/2000 and those are MME drivers, not WDM. If you don't plan on using XP or 2000 soon, then that is a moot point.

I've got an Aardvark DirectPro 24/96, and I love it. Someday I'd like to drop a Q10 in next to it... and about the shielding, yes indeedy, the PCI card feels like a casette tape case filled with lead. The (DP 24/96) breakout box is equally sturdy.

I do not have direct experience with this unit though at one point I was pretty interested in buying it. Researching the Q10 I came across a post that stated that the Aardvark PCI cards get pretty hot, and this may be an issue.

You might also look at the Echo Mona. Just to toss more confusion on the fire.

Thanks, Guys.

Hey Gidge...
I looked at the deal with the mic they are throwing in.
That is still the lowest price I have seen for the Aardvark, even without the free mic.

If I do buy the Aardvark, it'll be from Bayview, with a thanks to Gidge.

The Delta 1010 does not have 8 phantom-powered mic pres like the Q10, but that's what you are paying for, I suppose.
As a Drummer, is it worth the extra $$$ for this feature?

Wheelema: Thanks for the info on the Mona, but I have a problem with the Darla/Gina/Mona/Lisa line they have.
Don't ask me why, just a gut feeling I would not like it.
