I answered an ad on kijiji for a keyboard and when I went to check it out, the guy had a sunburst Les Paul he had just bought off e-bay. I had a close look at it and it wasn't a real Les Paul. It had all the right name plates on the headstock and a stamped serial no. on the back, but the finish work was really poor. The neck wasn't straight and the action just plain ugly. The pots felt inferior but I didn't plug it in to listen. He was convinced it was genuine but I seriously doubt it. I think it was one of the trade tang knock-offs. I would say it was a really nice looking canoe paddle. I doubt if any luthier could save it. Another reason to "play before you buy".

Somebody must have sent them money.

On Trade tang?

Well, I have no idea if the linked site was Trade Tang, and now I guess we will never know, as the account has been suspended. But I swear, it came up $549 every time. Maybe the universe watching out for me, knowing it it came up $199 I woulda send them money...

Nah, the server is looping the redirects on this site - in short, it's been pulled. As the guys said, someone probably made a 'purchase', and the site has vanished.

Gibson did actually produce a few with maple necks/fingerboards but the black headstock doesn't look right. The case doesn't look right either. I'd want a picture of the serial number. I have a few LPs but I'm no expert. That one is too ugly for my tastes and the price seems way low. If I was interested I'd post it at the LP Forum and see what they said. My gut says fake but Gibson has put out some strange stuff in the past.

How do you spell Gibson?
The open "o" is a known dating item in legit LPs. That is not a "u".

If you Google "Maple neck Les Paul Custom" and hit images you'll get pics like that guitar. I think it may well be legit and that is a very nice price. I'd still want to see the serial number and a few other things and I've never seen that style case but that should be easy to chase down.

On second thought...on third thought... Just can't tell from the pics. Definitely have to see that one in person. Any of them really unless it's a known reputable seller.
