When i have been mixing my tracks, i have been putting the left overhead panned 100% to the left and the right overhead 100% to the right, should i do it 100% or not at all or just a little bit?

thanks

It depends on the mic configuration and how wide a sound you want. I find that with an XY, you could go 100 per cent left and right, but if it sounds like the drummer has arms 4 feet long, you can narrow it down a bit. Use your ears, only you know how you hear the song in your head, so try to re-produce that.

thanks alot man, that helped out alot!

Normally I don't like going dead-hard panned, I choose something like 94% to let a bit of bleed through the opposite channel.. Otherwise you get an unnatural sound, I feel, and that's true of any instrument..

I've used 3 overheads on occasion............................... :D shock & horror :D

panned hard left & right & bringing the middle mic up just enough to make a difference in the mix space (as it where)

I understand this not keeping a true stereo image but man it's sounded good for me.........................anyhoo I've taken to the XY config at about 80/80 panning
