is this a compatible setup???

heyy...i'm thinking about getting a beringher ub802 mixer and a xm1800s microphone for computer
recording(mostly voices and micropohned, acoustic guitars, and maybe some
keys)...i was wondering if that setup would be suitable with my soundcard..and also if you think it's a good idea to buy that...the mixer is 100$ and the mic is 20$ ....my sound card is a creative soundblaster 5.1 with the following specs:

Soundblaster cards are not the best for audio recording, Theyre more for gaming and entertainment.

You would definately not need the mixer for the set up, although it would be compatible if you really wanted to do it. Your best bet at the moment, in my opinion, would be to not get the mixer and invest in a soundcard such as the M Audio Audiophile, and also a microphone. For the microphone, you would also need a pre amp to get a decent signal so i would suggest also getting some sort of pre.

If the budget is limited, and you want to start recording now, simply just get the microphone with a XLR>1/8" jack so you can connect it to your soundblaster.

Check this out from M audio - a much better choice than that mixer, and it's more cost effective than the Audiophile. You can get pretty good results with this.

Also, spend more than 20 on a mic - look at the SM57, the MXL 990, and the MXL v67...
