A few of us do... but before you opt for "free consultation", why don't you search this site? We've all answered the same questions over and over -- it's all there if you look for it! ;)

I know I've worked in a studio that has 1/2 track tapes of [unknowingly committed] bodily functions that I KNOW .....well....we'll leave it at that...but, I'm sure the search function won't even get close:eek:

Well.... considering the pros already give some of their time here for free by answering people's questions and helping everyone, it just seems the appropriate thing to do is use this resource first before cutting into their valuable studio time.

If they're in the studio and not on the forum it's a safe bet that they're busy... do you really think it's a good idea to be interrupting them with questions that have already been answered here?? And trust me, just about everyone's question have already been answered - they just have to look....

blue bear i understand what u mean by that ...but i was just wondering if maybe there was someone that could help me man... can it hurt to ask.....i didnt ask for attitude i was just asking for help...if u didnt wanna help me thats all u had to say...u didnt have to make me look bad...thats kinda messed up...but ok...

but if there is someone out there that can help me on a one on one basis it would be greatly appreciated...

thank u much
joe

I'm pretty young and I don't own a professional studio, but I seem to know a lot about recording (except f****** cables, god****) and I won't give you any lip, cuz I've been there too where it seemed as though you just had to ask your own questions. My aim screen name is Ott6180 but I am barely on. My email is Abseg@yahoo.com If you email, we can plan a time to talk.

Attitude?? What I posted was not "attitude", it was a rational point....

Trust me, you'll KNOW when you've "attituded".... ;)

I have to agree with Blue Bear...I would safely bet that ANY question you may have at this stage has been answered. MANY times.

That being said, I would think you could find it useful to post specific questions in a forum like this and reap the knowledge of many pros.

u feeling me?

Just DO it....

I'm not a professional (but I play one on TV;) ), however I've learned a mountain of stuff by f***ing up. I bought a VS-880 5 years ago, hit record and started learning. I didn't even have internet access then (which has added substantially to my knowledge base because I put into practice what I pick up here.)
After about a year with my HD recorder, I called a friend who runs a full-time working Pro-tools studio. I asked him to come to my house and listen to my stuff. I said I would pay his studio rate if he'd give me a critique. When he came over I apologized for my primitive setup, to which he replied "hey, it's more than what I started out with." That's how I got my "one-on-one."

At that point I knew I could squeeze a lot more quality out of my rig. So much of this stuff is your ears and what's between them. I ended up mixing down my whole project at his studio to get a professional touch. What I learned in the 60 hours there was well worth it - and it showed. The stuff I brought in at the end was far better than the earlier tracks because of trial & error and listening.

So, if you're just starting out, then you're an amateur like me (which doesn't have to mean poor quality) and you need to start somewhere.

Start out with simple inexpensive equipment and learn the basics. A hard disk recorder will allow you to concentrate more on recording (less on fighting with a PC), hear what different effects, eq's, etc. will do to your mix. It will also allow you to familiarize yourself with some mixer paradigms.

If you have a decent computer, software can be had cheap (n-track, home studio, etc.). A decent soundcard (m-audio Audiophile), mic pre, microphone (Shure SM-57 is very versitile, and not really expensive) should get you started.

Don't worry about the big boys right now. Get something to start on and make your mistakes.

What the hell?

I gave you my email addreses. I will try to help you out. Don't worry about some of the bullshit here.

dang i cant use paltalk my sound card isnt full duplex

this sucks

My first piece of advice is to get a full duplex sound card or you wont get to record and listen to tracks you have allready done at the same time.

try emailing some of us thats from your area, bribe us with beer, your sister, or brother(depending on what turns them on) and get them to come over for an on-site to answer your questions.

Joe...

I've recorded Grammy-nominated albums with just a piece of string and two soup cans.

Whadda ya need to know, Joe?
