Is there any point to purchasing the Fostex MR-8 8 Track Digital Recorder, and then much later on getting a Soundcraft M12??? Someone is telling me it would be a waste to buy a recorder. Is this an issue of preferences, because personally I will use the computer, but I prefer external consoles.

Anyone know any reasons why I should get the Fostex MR-8??

Thanks

Chris

I would think if nothing else, the MR8 will make a great digital interface for you. Plus the fact that it's portable introduces another caveat for the computer.

Computers can be a pain in the ass to deal with. They're not user friendly when it comes to recording, and for me, tend to stifle my creativity. They are however good for editing once recording of the tracks has been done. That's where the MR8 comes in. No soundcard to deal with, no latency problems, no optimizing of the computer, and no software conflicts to distract you. Just plug in your instrument and record. It's portable so you can take it anywhere in your house that you feel is a creative environment, and start recording. The tracks are then transferred to the pc using USB. For me this was the ideal solution as to wether I should use a stand alone recorder or go the pc route. I had been debating it with myself for some time, and then the MR8 came out. It proved to be a cheap solution to my dilemma.
