I've been researching for months, and could use some expert opinions. My needs: 24 bit when using 16 tracks, a good display or computer monitor hookup (I'm visually impaired), onboard CD burner. I prefer more than 2 XLR/phantom inputs. My budget is $2000-2500. I considered the Tascam 2488, but it seems difficult to use, and has a small display. I looked at the Yamaha AW4416 but it has only two XLR's and I don't think you can hook it up to a monitor. Two questions about the VS2400CD: What's the street price? Is it 24 bit with 16 tracks?

I have owned a VS2400cd for over a year now. I am very happy with it. It is very easy to use. It is 24bit with 24 tracks. I think roland still has a deal for a free monitor with purchase. You should be able to get one at GC for around $2000.00. I would also recommend getting the additional expansion board, it will increase your on board effects processors from 2 to 4. Maybe you can have them throw that in the deal too.

It looks like few are replying, but many are reading, so I'll post the few things I've learned about the VS-2400CD.

First of all, there's disagreement as to whether 96K sampling rate makes a difference when the final product is a CD, which is limited to a 44.1 sampling rate.

I've learned that real time panning is possible; you select the pan mode and the fader becomes the pan pot. Panning was a concern because, as far as I could tell, you can't pan real time on the Tascam 2488, the machine I was looking at before the Roland. I've also been told the Roland has better-sounding FX than the Tascam.

I would like to know how many mastering tools I can use at once, when burning a CD. Can I use compression, EQ, sonic maximizer, all at once?
