is the tlm 103/ua 710 a good combinations?

i just got the tlm 103
and now i need a good pre to go with it
i was looking into gettin the ua 710
has any one used this combination to record on?

Is this for vocals?
I personally love the tlm 103, but the pre-amp looks pretty pricey to me for just one channel.
Whereabouts are you based? I only ask as I'm one of those try-before-you-buy types, especially when it comes to this sort of money. Most places should be happy to arrange a listen considering you're willing to spend this amount.
If you happen to be in the UK, try somewhere like Digital Village who can probably organise you a demo.
Any other suggestions guys?

I agree with auditioning before buying. That said-I use a 103 with fairly modest gear and it sounds great, which leads me to believe that, to a certain extent, a great mic can overcome limitations furtherdown the signal chain.

Very much agreed, generally speaking, the audible difference between mics is absolutely HUGE compared to the audible difference in mic amps! the 103's are lovely mics. An excellent choice kaleb!
