Is the star spamming just a way to boost a post count?

Anyway guys..... ignore em... I know Im no 'force of nature' here yet, but honestly...the stars mean nothing.....

I choose which posts to listen to by the manner in whcih they're titled, and whose posted them... I usually pick 1 or 2 random ones everytime i come on (otherwise i'd live on this thing.....wait hold on....I do....)

Point is....I ignore the stars..... they dont mean much.

2 pence firmly thrown into the ring.

I have to admit that up until recently, I would definately use the stars to guage what I would listen to. Even now, if I come across a thread with a lot of posts and 5 stars, I will check it out, but the one star threads are too numerous to not listen to any of them. I hope Dragon can resolve the matter.

See, I think that's one of the problems with stars. It's the threads with few hits that usually need the help!
 
heres what i dont get....separately, you guys (Chris and Sam) are two of the cooler guys here and definitely among the most talented SOB's in the Clinic.....together, there seems to be some tension.....what is the deal between you 2?.....

Yeah same here, I'm a huge fan of both you guy's (you too Gidge:D ) Did I miss something between you two? If i did I don't want to know about it anyway. I do know this though..both of you are "good people" and i can tell by reading your post's and listening to your tunes that you are. Just wanted to stop in and say HI>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>:D

OK, I can fix this. Just take all the stars and put them on my posts. And when I listen to another post I'll give each and every one a little star. And then when we all get out of 1st grade we'll graduate to checks and x's.
 
I say its just the comments I give and get that mean anything. I don't care about the stars because this is all for fun and learning for me. Give me one, give me none. Makes no difference.

Ah--but I have thought of a way to make things even more nuts. Lets have a SONG OF THE MONTH award and also a SONG OF THE YEAR AWARD. The, we can bring out the worst in everybody. Hey, works for the music business. Might work here.

Btw, thanks for the props Chad and Kramer...but I don't think a SOTY or SOTM isw what we need here either.

So much of what I've learned about recording came from right here. I should repost the first 4 or 5 songs I came here with in February just to prove the point. Sam gave me my first listen, and from there I took suggestion after suggestion and now I'm finally starting to be happy with my ears.

Point is if you're listenening to music based on the star rating AT ALL you are doing a lot of beginners injustice. (Not that Chad and Kramer do that....they're both a huge help around here!!!!)
 
Since this thread is still going today, let me break it down.. There is no flame war going on as far as I'm concerned, and everything about the past can be found by doing a search if you really need to know when it went bad..





There has been many good tunes that came out of here, and I agree that 'Why are you still here' is one of the best, but my vote for song of the year is strictly for musical preference.. There were 2 songs that are the type of stuff I usually listen to..

so it's a tie..

screw all the awards... I never got one, and never gave one.. Although I have given a few threads 5 stars, I won't participate in that part of it anymore..
 
Guys--I was just being sarcastic about the Song of the Year and all that. Like the stars, I think it brings all the worst out in people. Music isn't a contest or a competition. Its about communication. When creative people start worrying about awards and accolades, thats when they lose the muse. Its also when feelings get hurt and fights start.

Besides all that, can you imagine where this would lead? Song of the year wouldn't be enough. We'd have to have best rock song, best alternative, best country, best jaw harp instrumental, best cover, etc. Then, we'd have to have categories like best portastudio recording, best 8 track tape recording, etc. A best collab would have to go in there, and all sorts of stuff.

I'm just here to share and to learn and occasionally pass on what I know. I have won some cool awards in my life, but when somebody tells me personally they like what I did on a song I've posted, that means just as much to me.

The stars are stupid and people who lurk in the shadows can throw out their one star cowardly reviews without ever having the guts to come forward and speak their opinions. I say end the stars, end the competition. Make music.

No prob, G. No more posts by me in here... but HAD to clarify:

The reason I said "Song of the Year" to the JMarcomb & Sluice collab is that's what I said in the song thread :) Just a coincidence; had to hop on it. You're right, crawdad... it's silly :) We're all here to learn and have fun... even experts like crawdad :)
