Is the MR-8 worth buying?

Im thinking about buying an MR-8. I see a lot of posts about buttons falling off. and other problems with recording. Should I get a MR-8 or should I buy something else?

At $299. I doubt anything else is better. ALL units will have issues from time to time, but in the vast majority of times, with the MR8, it's user error, not a technical flaw. The MR8 records at 16bit/44khz (CD quality). Others in that price range use data compression.

As to the buttons, I'd just treat the unit with extra care. These are not mechanical buttons like on an analogue machine.

I've only had my MR8 for a few months but it's been used 4 hours a evening pretty much every weeknight since I got it, and a lot longer on weekends. (My band is recording everything we've ever written in an attempt to generate more interest in playing again. )

I think the button problem may be overstated. I have noticed a very slight change in the amount of pressure it takes to activate my play button. My biggest complaint is the fact that I don't think they could have made it a more gaudy shade of red if they tried!

Look around and I think you'll find that the MR8 is the way to go.

Yes, but it's easy to find in a room crowded with other gear... ;)

HOLY CRAP!!!

There does seem to be a spike in the instances of button failure lately, doesn't there...!?! I just read all of the other posts of late.

This sucks... I hope I'm not on the verge of a button collapse...
I will be p#$sed if it does, I have treated mine like a lady. Albeit an ugly red-headed lady, but a lady nonetheless.

button posts

those are not all recent, someone searched and dug up all the old posts about buttons, even though mine had the button break, the replacement unit one year old now has had no problems

I've worked with the MR-8 and the Boss BR-8 (discontinued for about a year) and I'd go with an ebayed BR-8 in a second.

Boss BR-8

The user interface was way more intuitive and the effects are much better.

Can't remember now if it had a mic pre or not. I think it has one instead of two. ...

boss

my friend really likes his, but isnt it compressed audio, i dont think its 16 bit ,or is it?

All the Boss crap -er.. *gear* is compressed audio.
