You'll need a mic preamp. The Delta 66 only accepts line level inputs.

but not just any preamp...get a good preamp
or a mixer wit a preamp/optical outs

Check into a DMP3 if you can find one used. Will run you $100-120, which is pretty cheap. Also, maybe an audio buddy, not as good, but only like $80.

dmp3...isnt that only 2 ins/outs?
n the delta 66 box is 4 ins/outs
maybe u can get 2 of those.
as for monitors....go to musiciansfriend.com
pick one out...and post it here

Do you have any clue what you're talking about?
Why would he need a mixer with "optical outs"??? How is he going to hook that up to the 66?

Perhaps he meant SP/DIF out? Then you could go out from the mixer into the digital ins on the Delta. HOWEVER, you would then be using the AD converters in the mixer, which may or may not be better than the ones in the Delta.

Remember folks - ALL audio is analog to begin with, and it has to be converted at some point. I love folks who think monitors with digital inputs are the bomb, because "it's all digital man, no conversions needed!', when of course the converters (which probably suck) would be in the monitors. Ditto for pres with digital outputs.

Any studio is only as good as its weakest link. You don't have lot of inputs on the 66, but its no weak link. I used one for a few years, and the convertors on it are awesome, very clean. The Delta control panel that comes with it is simple to use. Its a great little sound card.

Even after I got my rme hammerfall, I left the 66 in the computer for a while because I record a lot of classical and I liked it better for that.

But like was mentioned earlier, its only line level inputs, so you will need some preamps.

It may be interesting to know that the Delta only has coaxial spdif i/o, not optical.

doohh! You're correct, I thought it was either SP/DIF or Optical, not SP/DIF Optical or SP/DIF Coaxial.

I should keep my mouth shut, as none of my gear has digital I/O. I'm analog all the way until my Delta 44 converters!
