Yep.....
This was my 2340s...you and Dr Z had provided a boatload of info and things to investigate.
I opened up the unit and located all of the relays and cleaned the contacts (getting the plastic covers off without damaging them was a pain!!). I did not visually se any issues (open laeds, damaged boards, etc.
Its still on the bench under a cover, as I got sidetracked by a family event (daughters wedding in July) so i have not had the opportunity to run any more tests or mess with it.
(sigh)
Still thinking about it, its just odd to get a partial erase. I would think it either would erase all or none. Since it clears two of the 4 tracks fully, the oscillator for the erase function must be ok. There doesnt seem to be anything else in the erase circuit except for the head itself.
Hopefully I can get back to it later in the month. Just another on a long list of sh** I cannot seem to find time to do.

I don't know if this will help with your particular problem but I had the same problem on my 3340 and I was able to fix it simply by grounding the simul sync board properly to the chassis. You do this by making sure the mounting screws and metal mounts are grounded right. I know it sounds simple but that's how I fixed mine. I get a perfect erase now. I had plastic mounts on there so it wasn't grounded. I got the metal ones on there and VIOLA! I first tested it by attaching an alligator clip and wire to the the mounting screw area and then grounding it to the chassis. I was lucky enough to meet someone who has been official TEAC and Tascam repairman for 20 years. He gave me a shitload of info on the decks and what to try. Everything goes through that board and it's in a vunerable spot where it is. It's easy to bump or damage. They've had alot of problems with those.
