is pro tools software better than samplitude?

I've used Cubase LE, Logic Express, and I just started using Pro Tools LE. As a personal preference, Pro Tools LE does it the best for me. I find it does more that I want than Cubase or Logic. I've never used Samplitude so I can't compare it to that; but I love Pro Tools. Cubase and Logic had me trying to figure shit out for a while, while in PT it's extremely used friendly. Also, the studio at my school uses it so it's easy to work on stuff at home / have my teacher help me with stuff. Oh well, different strokes. Another thing though, I may be limited 32 Tracks, but I have never gone over that. I think the most i've used is like 30, but about 6 of those were Aux Inputs and don't really go towards the 32 Track count. My mixes are not Professional, but they sound good to me and I have fun doing it. =]

Yeah maybe, but that's why it's dirt cheap and targeted at amateur home recordists.

If you expect more from M Audio stuff than what it delivers, considering what it is (budget, entry level gear) then I think your expectations are maybe a bit high.

Whew, at least I know where I stand now. I better sell the tele, the paul, and get something crappier. Maybe I should take my crappy hardware and shitty PT and find a new board that's more geared to HomeRecording. Let's see...uhm......home...recording....

Their converters sound like ass. How's that? Yes, I suffered the use of a Delta 1010 for far too long at a studio I worked at. Slightly improved with an external clock, but still not very good.

Seems to work for a LOT of people though - and those people are happily making music and actually obtaining a decent sound in their recordings. IMO, M-audio puts recording in reach for many people, and one of their "shitty" products is how I was able to start (Audiophile 2496).

Well, I think for the price, M-Audio makes good products.

I would guess it's a helluva lot better than Behringer and it's not much more expensive.

I probably won't ever have good enough monitors/room to hear difference in converters anyway, so I think I'll be fine with M-Audio. :rolleyes:

I loved my M-Audio Firewire 410, I also loved my M-Powered Protools. I think for what they do (entry level price/decent performance) you'd be hard pressed to beat them.

OK, so there you have it. We all (PT users included) think you really need to look at the options, look at your budget, and look at your expectations. Make your best guess and research from there. If you come up with more specific questions, I'm sure you'll get an answer here. I'll give Mr. Van's answer now. You Suck! :D
 
Well, this turned into a fun thread! :(

As a long time Samplitude user I'll say this.....Samplitude at one time was head and shoulders above the pack. When other software companies were tacking on audio to their midi sequencer programs, Samplitude had always been about pristine audio......way before computers were fast enough to support it at a pro level. Protools made the right play though, and overcame the hardware restrictions with a software/hardware approach. That is the sole reason they are where they are today.
Meanwhile, as good as the folks at Samplitude are at writing code, they have been terribly inept at marketing. At a time when other companies were just catching up with inferior products, Samplitude was out-marketed, while mis-calculating the importance of getting serious about midi. Now everyone is pretty good at audio, and Samplitude seems overpriced, though still worth it for enough discerning AEs to keep them going. Most of us rather enjoy the fact that Samp is "our little secret". It is an awesome program.
However, as has been said...... the best program is the one that works best for you to make the music you make.

Regarding M-Audio; calling them crappy is pure gear snobbery. Yes, their products fall well short of the Cranesongs and such, No SHIT! But crappy? That's an un-fair characterization of products well optimized for their price point. They do a wonderful job of squeezing the last bit of audio juice out of a cost limited BOM, and are well tuned to their customers needs.
