is pro tools m-powered compaible with tascam md 3200

hey could anyone help me im looking into a tascam md 3200 and i would like to know if i could run it on my pro tools m-powered not Le i know it is Le compatible but would like to know if its m-powered compatible
would apritiate it mutch if some one could help

You mean the DM3200? No such thing as a MD 3200...

Err, no... M-Powered = specific M-Audio hardware, not Tascam.

LE is limited to specific Digidesign hardware only, so again, not Tascam.

Only way to do it would be to hook up the DM3200 to some Pro Tools compatible hardware via ADAT or TDIF, but this is neither the prettiest nor the most cost effective route you could take. Are you fixed on Pro Tools? Why not one of the many other equally as good DAWs?

Of course that's all if you're talking about using it as an interface or for i/o... you should be able to use the DM3200 as a control surface for Pro Tools with no issues.
 
yeh man i ment dm 3200 yeah i would like to use it as an interface like mix my songs and record threw it but im also thinking about adding a digimax08 from presonus and run it their in and outs so i can get that nice xmax preamp sound how would that work ?
and ive been doon some reasearch the dm3200 is compatible with pro tools.
 
"Nice xmax preamp sound"? I don't dispute that they're probably amongst the more respectable preamps you can get for that price range, but I think you've been eating up too much of their marking BS :p Anyway, you would probably connect the Presonus Digimax to the Tascam via ADAT.

Can I reiterate... the DM3200 is not directly compatible with Pro Tools as an interface.

You would need to connect it via some Digidesign hardware. It would seem the setup that Tascam try to push as their 'Pro Tools compatible setup' is running it into a Pro Tools HD rig via TDIF, which is gonna cost you a lot to do.

On the other hand, it can be used as a control surface for Pro Tools subject to the limitations of HUI.
 
If you want to use protools M-powered, you can ONLY use an M-audio interface. If you want to use protools LE, you can ONLY use a Digidesign interface. No other interface will work.

If you did that? Well, it would be a bit stupid to be honest.

The M-audio would give you 8 inputs to use with the (severely crippled IMO) Tools M-powered software you would have to buy separately.

The DM32000 would then function purely as a control surface, which seems like a complete waste of a very good digital mixer / potential interface.

Instead of the DM3200 you could get a dedicated control surface, or you could get something like the Digidesign 003 (the one with the integrated control surface) that would integrate fully with Pro Tools LE.

But I have to ask the question... why are you so desperate to have Pro Tools? What do you think is special about it that other DAWs can't offer you, that means you have to severely limit your choice of hardware?

Name pretty much any other DAW other than Pro Tools, and you could get the DM3200 (with the FW expansion card) like you seem you have your heart set on, and it would instantly work well as both an interface and a control surface with no problems.

So either drop the idea of the DM3200, or drop the idea of Pro Tools. As I said earlier, unless you invest in a PT HD rig then you're not going to be able to have both!

man i own pro tools m-audio and i didnt wnnna buy another program cus i am good at this one im curently using a fast track pro with pro tools m-audio and i dont like the 003 cus it has horrible preamps and fader problems so i dicided to get something extreme so i can run the pro tools with a bigger counsle

...but you can't. Without a lot more investment, you ain't gonna get the DM3200 playing nicely with Pro Tools, especially not with M-powered.

You need to put a lot more thought into this and try to fully understand for yourself how everything fits together.

As I said before, its pretty much a choice between Pro Tools or the DM3200.

If I were you (and had the money for a DM3200) I would immediately dump Pro Tools, but it seems you're very against that.

And just to reiterate: despite not being able to use it as an interface, the DM3200 should function (within the limits of its HUI mode) as a control surface for any Pro Tools version.
 
So. I just looked up the DM 3200, and HOLY CRAP! If your going to spend that much money, why not buy a less crappy DAW while your at it?
 
yeah gotcha man well thanks but i guess ima ave to dump pro tools but yeah what about cubase 5 or which daw u think is best
