Is noise reduction always required?

It's the ART. I had one for a live DI and it proved to be noisy.
Interface is a must.

Ken, I'm using the Tascam US-122 mkii, which is a low-end interface for around $150. ...
... When i skip the Tube MP, the levels are way too low. I have to end up amping them using software, which also amplifies the noise.

Here's another one- a) Why would the level be low with just the Tascam? and b) It may be that if you raise a track that's a little low in the recording app, there is very little noise added there.
So you may still mainly be bringing what might be mostly that same room noise -like we're hearing about the same with the Mbox..?

If the noise is hiss then it's nothing to do with cables etc, but purely electronics (noisy pre amps etc.) Any other form of noise could be room noise, cables, etc.

Did you even bother to listen to the samples the OP posted? They exhibit enough room noise (mainly ventilation/fans) that any electronic hiss is well buried underneath it.

Thank you all for your help and feedback. I wasn't expecting such a big response from you guys - this forum is great!

I'll try to change a few variables or move the mic to another room, and let you know how it goes.

Hey, I'm still curious about your mic placement on those sample treacks. I presume the 2021' is cardioid, but- sounds damnd near like it's picking up like an omni?

You're right it is a cardioid SDC. It's pretty close to the guitar neck - about 4 inches away, slightly angled toward the soundhole.
