Is my Fostex VF08 Broken

I purchase a Fostex VF 08 on ebay The gentlemen told me it was used, but is in perfect working order. Well I recieved the unit,read the directions and proceeded to record following the instruction All went well through step 4 . At step 5 (Press Record Key), nothing happen the key did not flash red and track 1 (which is armed )was to change to imput monitor. Nothing.I tried this procedure several dozen time and still no movement . Can any one help? Did I do something wrong or is the machine not perfect?
Help would be appreciated. Thnaks
 
Did you try to arm any other tracks other than track 1 ?
 
Thanks for the reply. Yes I tried tracks 3 & 4 Same thing No red flashing on the record key. I did note on the crystal display the program number was to be P01:#0001 My screen show P21:TIME and the stop key was lite. Is this some indication of a problem?
